Adele Chiodo's San Francisco (Nike 26.2) Marathon Pledge Page!
Hello everyone! Thanks for taking the time to check out my page!
I AM GOING TO RUN A MARATHON - 26.2 MILES!!! (as of right now, I have never run more than 6 miles in my entire life!) WHY??? As some of you may know, I have always been very involved in philanthropic endeavors, through the Girl Scouts, Alpha Phi Omega, Carnegie Mellon and Zeta Psi Sigma. However, in recent years, these kinds of opportunities have been hard to come by... until I discovered the LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY, the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has provided more than $358 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers. I have joined their TEAM-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM, which pairs individuals who aspire to complete their dream of running a marathon (one of my life-long goals!!) with a training program, a staff of coaches and mentors, and most importantly, the inspiration and motivation to help us achieve this goal. I have been paired with my own individual PATIENT HERO - 12-year old Nicole Klinger, who is one of the many children in the Pittsburgh area who has been diagnosed with this disease. In return, I am asked to raise a minimum of $2,600.00. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society dedicates 75% of every dollar spent to advance its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The marathon is in SAN FRANCISCO on OCTOBER 24TH, 2004. I am asking for your support in helping me reach my goal of $2,600.00! |
